Chickweed  (Stellaria media)

Chickweed is a native plant of Europe.   Its active constituents are Saponins (anti-inflammatory), Mucilage, coumarins and flavanoids.   Chickweed is rich in B complex vitamins and vitamins D and C.   It is also rich in iron, copper, calcium, and sodium and contains manganese, phosphorous and zinc.   It is antipruritic (relieves itching), vulnerary (aids healing), emollient and astingent.   Chickweed is useful in the treatment of itches, abscesses, eczema, sunburn, nappy rash, burns, cuts, psoriasis and ulcers.   It is particularly useful for soothing inflamed, erupted and itchy skin conditions.

Plantain  (Plantago lanceolata)

Plantain originated from Eurasia.   Its active constituents include tannins, flavone glyocides, and mucilage.   It contains vitamins K and C and the trace elements calcium, potassium, sulphur, zinc and silica.   Plantain aids healing, is anti-inflammatory, soothing and astringent.   It is useful in skin preparations for the treatment of insect bites, stings, rashes, bruises, ulcers, local application to haemorrhoids and slow healing wounds.
