The New Zealand Pohutukawa generally grows in coastal regions.   It flowers profusely for a short period normally in early summer.   The honey produced has a buttery creamy taste with citrus lime overtones and a butterscotch aftertaste.   Because it grows in coastal areas, often on cliffs overhanging the sea, it often has a distinctive salty note.
